Who we are

Wayward Objects is a puppet theatre company creating performances, installations and visual work from found and discarded materials. Everyday objects are taken apart, reworked and brought to life, becoming curious creatures and moving forms with their own intentions.

The work explores environmental themes through humour, care and hands-on making, inviting audiences to look again at the materials and spaces around them.

Wayward Objects is led by recycling artist and puppeteer Michelle Reader, whose practice combines low-tech construction, storytelling and movement within contemporary visual theatre. Projects are created collaboratively with artists, makers, performers and thinkers from a range of disciplines.

Each project brings together a different constellation of collaborators, shaping the form, material language and performance logic of the work. Current collaborators include musician and songwriter Steno Vitale, dance artist Miriam Keye and poet Leanne Moden.
